Katharsis

The small, modern building, previously destined for a sewage treatment, is located on a small hill near the parking lot and the Swiss Villa. The building is two storeys high – the underground part is designated for a pool room, and the above-ground level is intended for club and conference purposes, with the possibility of hosting smaller artistic events as well. It is fully equipped and prepared for exploitation, and it is decorated in respect of the needs of the Dom Pracy Twórczej. Katharsis as the small building perfectly blends into the Radziejowice landscape, neatly combining wooden elements with light-coloured plastered surfaces. Its name is a humorous reference to its former intended use. It now serves as a conference and training facility.

Larch Mansion

The Larch Mansion was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century as the residence of an estate administrator. Today, the building welcomes guests from across the country and beyond!

The exact date when the Larch Mansion was built stays unknown. Most likely, it was built in the first half of the nineteenth century as the central building of the manor farm complex and the residence of the estate administrator. At the time, Radziejowice was a prosperous estate, featuring a brickyard, a forge, mills, and taverns that were leased out. Therefore, there must have been an administrator responsible for maintaining such a large estate. However, the building was not included in the detailed panorama drawing made in 1820 by Jakub Sokołowski, which suggests the Mansion was built later. It is thought that the Larch Mansion was tied to the Ossoliński family, as it was commonly referred to as “Ossolineum” in the 1930s. However, the question of its dating and authorship is still shrouded in the mists of history.

Today, in the Larch Mansion, guest rooms are available and a living room, that was particularly designed for small gatherings of the guests. The mansion’s architectural shape and its location interest many tourists visiting the Radziejowice Castle and Palace-Park Complex.

Castle

The rooms that can be found here satisfy even the most demanding guests. It is possible to choose from two representative and extensive apartments, where spacious living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms are included.

Originally, at the current place of the Castle, a residential tower was built by Andrzej Radziejowski. He was expanding the family residence in keeping with his status as Voivode of Płock which he received in 1512. At the time, it was common to include residential, representational, and defensive functions within a single building. It was a method initiated by Sigismund I the Old. In the sixteenth century, the tower was expanded by Mikołaj Radziejowski. Its character was no longer defensive but mostly representational with a big hall on the upper floor, in accordance with the principle of the piano nobile. The tower had a larger area then; hence the entrance was situated in a different place than now. This is evidenced by walls uncovered beneath the courtyard lawn

The Castle’s neo-Gothic appearance was shaped in the nineteenth century, thanks to the Krasiński family, who owned Radziejowice at the time. It is the work of the architect Jakub Kubicki. The castle was rebuilt and gained an “ancient” look, suggesting the romantic history of the place. The coats of arms and inscription plaques were prominently displayed. Arcades were added to connect the Castle with the Palace. Currently, there are two apartments, and catering facilities are located here.

Palace

The Radziejowice Palace was built in fifteenth century as the representation for Radziejowski noble family. The palace was much bigger at the time, and it was said to accommodate 1,000 guests. It was located on the site of the present Swiss Villa.

The palace’s present location is owed to Primate Michał Radziejowski, who carried out the reconstruction of one of the outbuildings of the former palace complex. After his death, palace passed into the hands of the Prażmowski, Ossoliński and eventually Krasiński family since 1792. At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the whole property was thoroughly modernized. Architect Jakub Kubicki, court architect to King Stanisław August, was commissioned and gave the Palace its classical appearance. The windows were framed with plain surrounds, and the under-window cornices were supported on consoles. On the front facade, a central risalit with the main entrance was created, and the Krasiński family coat of arms – Ślepowron – was installed. On the first floor, a terrace supported by Tuscan columns was constructed to shelter the main entrance. Jakub Kubicki preserved a part of Primate Michał Radziejowski’s decorative parts, such as oval windows and decorative window surrounds with projections in the central risalit. This is the image that can be seen on the panorama made by Jakub Sokołowski in 1820. The architect kept the arrangement of rooms in enfilade layout. The most representative form was given to the staircase on the upper floor, from which one exits onto the terrace. Along the walls, door openings were arranged symmetrically. Today, large, mirrored panels hang in their place. The southern wall was adorned with a Baroque portal made of black marble. The most prestigious rooms were decorated with polychrome paintings. The interiors feature arabesques, grotesques, and ornaments executed in the grisaille technique, creating an illusion of three-dimensionality. The walls were embellished with frescoes depicting Wawel Castle, the castles in Ojców and Pieskowa Skała, as well as the Theatre on the Water in the Łazienki complex. Unfortunately, they have been painted over in 1932, and after the war completely removed along with the plaster. After World War II, the damaged palace complex was reconstructed with funding from the Ministry of Culture and Art. Since 1965, the Palace has been a cultural and artistic centre. Today, there is a permanent exhibition of Józef Chełmoński’s art. It is displayed in rooms on the ground and on the first floor. In addition, the Palace houses apartments, guest rooms, reception and the dining room.
